Zambo Sibugay Guv Palma wants farmers to say bye to chemical fertilizers
To reduce dependence on potentially hazardous chemical fertilizers, Governor Wilter Palma has issued the order creating the Zamboanga Sibugay Technical Committee on Organic Agriculture (ZSTCOA) Wednesday, October 19, in line with efforts to boost production organically.
The politiko said his Executive Order No. 1011-09-05-16-009 aims to reduce the dependency of Zamboanga Sibugay farmers on potentially hazardous fertilizer and boost agricultural production through organic farming.
“This (farming method) will make the local agricultural products free from toxic substances,” Palma stressed.
The politiko’s edict sets a policy for sustainable development of the agriculture sector through environment-friendly farming strategies and techniques.
A technical committee has been created to ensure productivity.
Palma said his Executive Order is consistent with the declared policy under Republic Act 10068 otherwise known as the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010 that mandates all local government units to persistently propagate and develop organic farming method.
The ZSTCOA in partnership with Department of Agriculture and other stakeholders will play crucial role in promoting long-term and sustainable economic viability of organic farming.
One of the functions of the ZSTCOA is to formulate and implement plans and programs consistent with the framework of Republic Act 10068.
The ZSTCOA will also provide a model organic farm to promote environmental management and improved nutrition in the pursuit of the government’s thrust for food security by adopting the integrated system on agricultural development framework.
