Yedda Marie Romualdez is pleased that her Batasan colleagues approved on third reading the SIM Card Registration bill, which is a measure seen to deter fraudsters and spammers.

The measure was already for signing into law in June but former President Rodrigo Duterte vetoed it.

The Tingog party-list congresswoman is among the bill sponsors along with her husband, House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

“Sim card registration is mandatory in around 90 countries to date. This bill aims to require the end user to accomplish and sign a control-numbered registration form with personal details, effectively promoting end-user accountability to prevent the proliferation of mobile phone scams and data breaches, and to assist law enforcement agencies in resolving crimes involving the use of mobile phone units,” the politiko said.
