The once-powerful Liberal Party has lost its grip in Negros Occidental, losing eight mayors allied with it to President Rodrigo Duterte’s PDP-Laban.

At least 17 of the province’s 32 mayors, including the eight from LP, had signified their intention to join PDP-Laban, Visayan Daily Star reported.

Of the 17 mayors joining the PDP Laban, nine are affiliated with the local United Negros Alliance, UNegA secretary Angel Verdeflor said. These include:

– Alfredo Marañon III of Sagay City (NUP)
– Ernesto Estrao of Hinoba-an (LP)
– Patrick Escalante of Cadiz City (LP)
– Lourdes Escalante of Manapla (LP)
– Richard Jaojoco of Toboso (LP)
– Cicero Borromeo of Candoni (LP)
– Rhumyla Nicor Mangilimutan of La Castellana (LP)
– Jilson Tubillara of San Enrique (Independent)
– Emmanuel Aranda of Binalbagan (LP)

– Neil Lizares of Talisay City (Independent)
– Mark Golez of Silay City (PMP)
– Marvin Malacon of EB Magalona (NUP)
– Francis Palanca of Victorias City (LP)
– Andrew Montelibano of Murcia (UNA)
– Magdaleno Peña of Moises Padilla (NPC)
– Miguel Peña of Pulupandan (NPC)
– Enrique Marivalles of Valladolid (NPC)

Such a development leaves 11 mayors allied with the Nationalist People’s Coalition and four with the National Unity Party.

Of the mayors remaining with the NPC and NUP, they see no need to join PDP-Laban as their parties already have coalitions with it.

Remaining with NPC are:

– Evelio Leonardia of Bacolod
– Nicholas Yulo of Bago
– Araceli Somosa of Calatrava
– Jerry Tabujara of Cauayan
– Eddie Montero of Escalante
– Tinto Bascon of Himamaylan
– Genaro Rafael Alvarez of Ilog
– Enrique Montilla of Isabela
– Gerardo Valmayor of San Carlos
– Isidro Zayco of Kabankalan
– Oscar Montilla of Sipalay

Staying with NUP are:

– Jose Nadie Arceo of Hinigaran
– Jacky Jalandoni of La Carlota
– Joeben Alonso of Pontevedra
– Marxlen de la Cruz of Salvador Benedicto
