A policeman is now in deep trouble for allegedly assaulting and harassing his commander in Pototan town in Iloilo province.

New Western Visayas police head P/Brig. Gen. Rene Pamuspusan vowed prompt action against Patrolman Joerick Ace Ilisan of Pototan Police Station in Iloilo.

Last July 18, Ilisan allegedly attacked Police Major Ronnie Brillo, Pototan police chief, following an inspection of the town’s police station (

Initial investigation showed a team led by Police Major Nazer Canja, the PRO-6 camp duty officer, inspected the Pototan Police Station.

Canja’s team reached Pototan at around 1:15 a.m. of July 18, and caught Ilisan and Police Corporal Esil Peñarubia drinking inside the police station.

The two were only wearing their white undershirts instead of the standard blue PNP uniform. At the time, Brillo was visiting the wake of Staff Sergeant Jessie Pamado in Barangay Lumbo, Pototan.

Canja ordered Ilisan and Peñarubia to wear their complete police uniform and to unload their firearms as Ilisan was supposedly wearing his upper shirt inside-out.

After Canja informed Brillo about what happened, Brillo confronted Ilisan but Ilisan held on to his service 9mm Taurus pistol, and allegedly attacked, harassed and threatened Brillo.

He even went outside the station and fired his gun until he was arrested by the Iloilo Police Provincial Office-Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT-IPPO).

Ilisan now faces a criminal case for grave threats along with administrative charges.

Ilisan had been in the police service for eight years but he did not seek promotion. He may also be subjected to a neuro-psychiatric test to gauge his mental and psychological fitness to work.

The PRO-6 condemned the incident and stressed such actuations of police officers are not tolerated.

Meanwhile, Pamuspusan also ordered Ilisan and Penarubia’s immediate relief, the swift conduct of the investigation, and immediate filing of the administrative and criminal cases.

He also urged Internal Affairs Service 6 to take over the conduct of investigation on the administrative case.
