VM Geonzon, 3 others face graft raps over office repair
Minglanilla, Cebu’s Bids and Awards Committee has filed criminal and administrative complaints against Vice Mayor Loben Geonzon, Councilors Lynette Geonzon and Allan Bastida, and private individual Katheleen Gail Geonzon before the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas.
The Geonzons and Bastida were charged for grave misconduct, falsification and illegal use of public funds.
The complainants are Municipal Administrator Concordia Mejias, Municipal Agriculturist Minerva Violon, Office of the Building Official-designate Joselito Nacario, and Local Civil Registar Hedwig Simene, who are all members of the BAC; secretariat head Ederlita Cerna; and designated canvasser Dandrile Juarez. They alleged that Vice Mayor Geonzon asked for the reimbursement of P27,480 for the improvement and rehabilitation of the Sangguniang Bayan office even if there were no repairs done.
The complainants also claimed that 19 separate procurements are anomalous which involved purchases of materials from New Lynette’s Enterprises, a hardware store.
“The reason that New Lynette Enterprises is given preference in all the transactions subject to this complaint is because it is owned by the family of Hon. Loben Geonzon,” read the complaint.
The purchases subject of the complaint are either procurement but no actual project implemented, procurement by the vice mayor directly with the said hardware store and procurement that have deliveries and/or implementation but the supplier is the said hardware store, according to the complainants.
“All these procurements would not have materialized if not for the connivance and cooperation of Katheleen Gail,” the complaint further read.
