US govt trains PH border security agencies

Philippine officials tasked with guarding the country’s borders received a much-needed training from counterparts in the United States last June 17 to 21.

The Philippine participants who attended included representatives from the Bureau of Customs, Bureau of Immigration, and Philippine Coast Guard.

Organizers said the training provided a thorough understanding of the targeting and risk management process to help identify high-risk shipments as well as high-risk persons entering the country.

Conducting the training funded by the US Department of State’s Export Control and Related Border Security program was the US Customs and Border Protection.

Participants learned best practices for collecting, tracking, and reporting data and information, as well as analyzing and assessing risks.

The participants also visited the Philippines National Coast Watch Center to see importance of inter-agency collaboration.
