Trouble in paradise? Iloilo’s glory in COVID-19 aid blotted by stoning of patient’s home
Ilonggos aren’t all sweet and malambing after all.
Mayor Jerry Treñas has catapulted Iloilo City to instant fame with his decisive responses even before a local COVID-19 case has been tallied. The politiko already bought testing kits, rolled out mobile markets, and streamlined distribution of aid to residents.
However, it seems that his cool and calm take on the crisis didn’t necessarily inspire fellow Ilonggos. Manila Bulletin has reported that a house in Lambunao town was stoned by locals upon learning that a COVID-19 patient lives there, who infected the rest of his family. The man died from the disease.
Netizens condemned the dastardly act.
