Treñas appeals for GCQ status in Iloilo City
Mayor Jerry Treñas has appealed to the government’s Covid-19 task force to downgrade Iloilo City’s quarantine classification to general community quarantine (GCQ).
The city is currently under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
“We appeal for GCQ but with heightened health protocols,” Treñas said in a letter submitted to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases on Tuesday. (https://bit.ly/3hhXIdo)
The request, according to the city mayor, aims to help businesses recover from the losses during the lockdown.
He likewise noted the downgrade movement of the city’s daily Covid-19 cases and aggressive vaccination of priority residents.
Yesterday, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the recommendation of the IATF extending the city’s and Iloilo province’s MECQ status until July 15.
