Tokhang 3.0 operatives kill suspected drug pusher in Western Visayas: Buenamano sa Ilonggo
Oplan Tokhang 3.0, the Philippine National Police’s rebooted drive against illegal drugs, now has its first fatality in Western Visayas.
Police gunned down suspected drug personality Johndelbert Monares in Barangay Madrangca in San Jose town in Antique province last Saturday, Feb. 17.
Monares is the first fatality in Western Visayas since the third launching of Oplan Tokhang last Dec. 5.
Initial reports quoted police as saying Monares, a resident of Barangay 4 in San Jose town, fired shots at the Antique Police Provincial Office-Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (APPO-PDEU) and San Jose Police Station, prompting them to fire back (https://thedailyguardian.net/banner-news/first-kill-tokhang-3-0-wv-claims-first-fatality-resumption-drug-war/).
The police said he was about to be arrested after he sold a plastic sachet of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) for P500 to an undercover agent.
“After some changes, he settled that he would transact at Barangay Madrangca,” said Senior Inspector Marc Dado, San Jose police chief.
Police said that when they were about to arrest Monares, he allegedly pulled out a cal-.38 revolver and fired twice, prompting the undercover agent to tackle him.
Dado said Monares managed to get up and aimed his gun at the police. He said that as the backup officer, he had “no choice” but to shoot Monares in the chest and left temple.
Aside from the shabu and P500, recovered from Monares were a mobile phone and a motorcycle.
Dado said Monares is on their watch list of illegal drug personalities and surrendered under Oplan Tokhang in 2016 but did not undergo a drug test.
