Tighter penalties await smokers, vapers in Iloilo City
Smokers and vapers in Iloilo City are in for a tougher time as the city government put in place tighter penalties against its anti-smoking ordinance.
The city council unanimously approved the amendments to Regulation Ordinance 2014-527, as introduced by Councilor Joshua Alim.
Under the new ordinance, the higher penalties include
– first violation: P1,500 fine, up from the previous P500; and/or three days imprisonment
– second violation: P3,000 fine, up from the previous P1,000; and/or five days imprisonment
– P5,000 and/or imprisonment of 10 days for the third offense.
Alim also noted the previous ordinance’s provisions for community service as penalties had been difficult to impose due to lack of manpower.
