Sunburst park to boost Iloilo tourism

Iloilo City expects to bolster its tourism with the famous Sunburst Park, now that the city government has taken charge of its operation and management.

Sunburst Park, a historical landmark in Iloilo City originally called “Plaza de Aduana,” has been restored to its old glory following renovation work there.

The P19-million development project, implemented by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), was finished last Dec. 14 (Sunburst park to boost Iloilo City’s tourism).

“Now that we already turned over this Sunburst Park to the city government, the maintenance and operation management will be under their authority. It’s up to them to develop it or enhance it as long as its for the improvement of the area,” Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) Chief Operating Officer Pocholo Joselito Paragas said.

Paragas led the turnover ceremony of the renovated Sunburst Park to the city government.

Sunburst Park features a walkway, chess playground, and park benches for leisure and exercise.

TIEZA noted the revival of Sunburst Park was in line with the development of the Central Business District or “downtown Iloilo” as a heritage zone.

Sunburst Park, located in front of the Iloilo Customs House, was named after the US Army’s 40th Infantry “Sunburst” Division that liberated Panay from the Japanese during World War II.
