State of calamity declared in Capiz due to ‘Paeng’

Capiz is now under a state of calamity as Typhoon “Paeng” has displaced more than 42,000 families in the province.

On October 29, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Capiz approved the recommendation of the Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to place the entire province under a state of calamity due to the typhoon’s massive effects.

“Paeng” displaced a total of 42,550 families or 141,875 individuals, PDRRMC’s situational report showed. (

According to the lates report, 2,504 families (9,384 individuals) sought refuge at various evacuation centers, while the rest stayed in their homes or with relatives.

Following the declaration, Capiz will use its quick response fund to assist the affected families.

The provincial government continues to distribute relief packs to affected families with the assistance of the Philippine Army, Philippine Coast Guard, Capiz Citizens Action Group Inc., Philippine Red Cross, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Provincial Information Office, and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.
