Sorry students: No class suspension amid transport strike, says Iloilo Mayor Mabilog
Classes in Iloilo City won’t be suspended despite the scheduled two-day nationwide transport strike from June 5 to 6.
Iloilo Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the city government is just following the Department of Education’s (DepEd) orders regarding the non-suspension of classes.
“We have already talked with the public utility jeepney drivers and operators and we explained to them that we will not suspend classes during its scheduled opening because this is the announcement of Department of Education (DepEd),” Mabilog explained.
Transport groups in the country will purposely stage a strike during the reopening of school classes. This is to demonstrate their opposition to the plan of phasing out jeepneys that are 15-year-old and above.
Mabilog said the City Government will provide vehicles for stranded commuters.
The politiko also encouraged the public to carpool with their officemates in going to work and returning home.
