He’s not risking safety.

Call him a party pooper, but Mayor Tommy Osmeña is standing firm on his backpack ban for all events in the Sinulog Festival of Cebu City.

The politiko issued an apology on Facebook after receiving loads of complaints, saying that he is all about safety and efficiency for all the street events.

“I am sorry, but this is for your safety. Almost all terrorist bombings in Philippine cities are done with a backpack that is left in a crowd. We simply do not have the resources to screen all bags properly and even if we did, movement would be so slow you will end up standing for 4 hours waiting to be screened,” Osmeña said.

“2 million people will be in the streets, and I am responsible for each and every one of you. Cebu has been fortunate enough to not have ANY bombing for the past 30 years and I will do everything I can to keep it that way.”

“I apologize for the inconvenience, but I cannot be sorry for doing my job,” the politiko added.–NuLPQyTSlaT0y4k8qEVmsk8F3qa4753BXvEMs7ZYnPa-6XQQwmRDiIFb888NL9hbXMSa07w0SSq39ah3kyd7FXlZGs9tVBL8neB_7SkCKWsyIhMp2yOrMZolifwHWy4yelgNpMX_uCMNqSKZJDonH0npRdXceb5a2TTtYs3B2HDvhFYuy9LmiYD_MN10xG9TtYcZaZDLE4zLdPb3qgnLbL_f3r4lj-pSMkTYB-QrSAJ9PZjvkU34Myfy_q1Omel6LLgTyJQZFk60smcvVCJv98NjFGdEmt8QNUHqpoZgFTGYlgW3QXy0W4BDC2AXRN0PUAoR1A&__tn__=-R
