Sandiganbayan orders Samar rep Tan suspended for 90 days
Samar 2nd District Representative Milagrosa Tan has been suspended for 90 days by the Sandiganbayan 1st Division concerning graft charges she is facing over the alleged anomalous purchase of medicines in 2007.
The anti-graft court said it imposed the preventive suspension since the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act requires all public officials be suspended.
“The Supreme Court has also repeatedly held that such preventive suspension is mandatory, and there are no ifs and buts about it,” it also cited.
Tan is facing before the Sandiganbayan five graft charges and one count of malversation of public finds.
The case stemmed from the 2007 purchase of medicines worth P69 million from Zybermed Medi Pharma.
The firm allegedly had no license to operate and that the Commission on Audit (COA) found that the purchase was unnecessary since there was no justification was made for buying the drugs.
