San Enrique SB wants state of calamity over hog deaths

The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) of San Enrique in Negros Occidental has passed a resolution calling for the declaration of a “state of calamity” in the municipality.
This, after the town recorded a total of 1,800 hog deaths.
They passed the resolution despite the lack of a formal recommendation from the local disaster risk reduction management council or the municipal development council, said Vice Mayor Carlo Raymund Magno. (https://rb.gy/6x4tu)
“It would now depend on the executive branch to decide what action to take. The SB will support whatever the action of the executive is,” said Magno.
Meanwhile, Mayor Jilson Tubillara said they are awaiting word from the provincial government on their plans and programs to address the situation.
The entire 4th District of Negros Occidental is now a “red zone” due to suspected hog cholera cases, added Tubillara.
He also admitted that there is currently no budget allocated to combat hog deaths in the municipality.
