Sa kulungan ma-quarantine: Quarantine violator arrested for punching barangay chairman in Negros
Instead of spending COVID-19 community quarantine at home, a resident of Bayawan City in Negros Occidental will be doing it behind bars, after he punched a barangay chairman who accosted him for violating the quarantine.
Margi Garote, 37, was arrested after punching Barangay Banaybanay chairman Gilbert Vicente who had told him to go home as the entire province is under general community quarantine.
Police records showed Garote allegedly pulled his knife and went wild and caused a public disturbance in the area. Vicente approached him but he resisted and allegedly punched him on the head (https://dailyguardian.com.ph/drunk-man-violates-quarantine-rules-punches-village-chief-in-bayawanx/).
Other barangay watchmen helped the police neutralize Garote until he was subdued and placed under police custody. They recovered a knife from him.
He now faces charges for direct assault of a person of authority.
