Red Cross to build molecular lab in Passi City
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) will establish a molecular laboratory in Passi City, the only component city of Iloilo province, which will be built inside the PRC Regional Disaster Management and Logistics Training Center, to support efforts to combat the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
The area was selected because of its strategic location, being the center in Panay Island.
The provincial government recently requested PRC to set up a molecular laboratory in its area due to the increasing cases of Covid-19 in the province. (https://bit.ly/36HwOrz)
The laboratory is expected to be operational this month after the accreditation will be completed based on the requirements set by the Department of Health and the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.
While the PRC molecular test laboratories are established to respond to the current pandemic, they will also be utilized to detect other diseases such as tuberculosis, dengue, malaria, hepatitis, zika, even HIV and cancer, among others.
These molecular test laboratories will ensure early detection and efficient treatment of various diseases and improve public health in the country.
