Rape cases in Iloilo on the rise!
Police in Iloilo City are on alert against rape cases after recording at least four cases in one week from July 30 to Aug. 5.
The Iloilo City Police Office’s Women and Children’s Protection Desk said this was a big jump from the zero case recorded from July 23 to 29.
Citing its records, it said the four incidents occurred in the City Proper, La Paz, Jaro, and Arevalo districts.
One of the four cases involved a minor – a case of incest in La Paz where the suspect is the victim’s father.
ICPO spokesperson and WCPD head Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines said that in all cases, the victims knew the assailants.
“The suspects are someone that the victims knew and trusted. For the other three cases, these happened during gatherings among friends,” she said.
The cases prompted the WCPD to hold information dissemination and issue safety reminders to the public.
“Anybody can be a victim – women, children, and even men. The latest incidents have proven that even the people we trusted so much could betray into abusing us,” Sangrines said.
“We try to extend every possible help we could give to the victims. We hope that they would also cooperate with us in prosecuting the suspects,” she added.
