Rama wants entire PH to celebrate Lapu-Lapu Day

Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama wants an amendment of Republic Act No. (RA) 11040, so that Lapu-Lapu Day will be celebrated in the entire country.

RA 11040, signed on June 29, 2018, has declared April 27 of every year as a “non-working” holiday in the City of Lapu-Lapu, and a “special working” public holiday for the rest of the country.

Councilor Donaldo Hontiveros, who represented Rama in the city’s own commemoration of the Lapu-Lapu Day, disclosed the mayor’s plan. (https://bit.ly/3Lz4879)

Hontiveros expressed his hope that everyone will embody Datu Lapu-Lapu’s bravery in dealing with all the present challenges.

“The first Filipino hero recorded in history, Lapu-Lapu asserted our rights and independence from foreign domination. He protected our freedom, our liberation. Let us embody his bravery as we move forward during uncertain times and allow ourselves to progress despite all the challenges,” the councilor said.

He also raised the need to be brave and to take on every trial head-on as the city moves forward to its vision for a Singapore-Like Cebu City

“Some 14 months ago, Mayor Mike Rama declared our liberation, our kagawasan, from the bondage of the long pandemic and that devastating Super Typhoon Odette. That move allowed our economy to open earlier than the rest of Cebu and the country followed. Liberation, yes, we now have. But again, we will continue to face challenges,” added Hontiveros.
