Puentevella thanks Marañon for opposing franchise bill
Former Bacolod mayor Monico Puentevella expresses his thanks to Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. for supporting their motion to review and dismiss House Bill No. (HBN) 8827, granting Gamboa Hermanos Farmworkers Multipurpose Cooperative (GHFMPC) the franchise to provide electricity to Negros Island.
HBN 8827, authored by Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco, Negros Occidental Rep. Mercedes Alvarez (6th district), and Bacolod City Greg Gasataya, will abolish Central Negros Electric Cooperative and other electric cooperatives (ECs) in Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, said Puentevella.
The congressional bet also questioned the GHFMPC’s track record, saying he has not heard of it supplying electricity.
HBN 8827 is also known as an “Act granting GHFMPC franchise to construct, install, establish, operate, own, manage and maintain distribution systems for the conveyance of electric power to the end-users in the Island of Negros.”
If he wins in the May polls, Puentevella said he will have the bill archived. It won’t be approved without public consultation, he added.
