PDEA secures ports in tie for Dinagyang
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency is securing ports in Western Visayas to prevent the entry of narcotics during the Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo.
PDEA-6 officer-in-charge Alex Tablate said the projected entry of many tourists for the Dinagyang will attract illegal drug traders.
As early as last month, he said they had started continuous monitoring of seaports and airports that may be used as gateways for illegal drugs.
He added they may soon get added K-9 units to augment the current three that now conduct regular inspections at major ports in the region.
Last Jan. 8, an anti-drug operation led to the arrest of Janice Pansoy, 22; and Raymond Baclado, both of Cebu.
Tablate noted the arrest was due to the help of residents who provided authorities with tips.
