Maglilingkod din: Ex-PGMA’s sis-in-law to run for Congress
Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s kin may be making a comeback in the Western Visayas political scene, with her sister-in-law reportedly eyeing a congressional seat in Negros Occidental in 2019.
Marilou Arroyo, the younger sister of former first gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, is reportedly seeking the congressional seat in the province’s fifth district.
A report on The Daily Guardian quoted several mayors as saying Marilou had communicated with them about her possible electoral run.
If she wins, Marilou – a registered voter of La Castellana town – may be the next Arroyo to represent the district since the late former Rep. Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo.
The death of Iggy Arroyo led to a special election won by present Rep. Alejandro Mirasol in 2011. Mirasol was reelected in 2013 and 2016.
Other possible congressional bets in the district include Himamaylan City Mayor Agustin Bascon, and his cousin Provincial Board Member Len Gatuslao.
