Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia opposed the “no vaccine, no ride” policy, which is being implemented in the transport sector in Metro Manila to stem the spread of Covid-19 infections.

Such a policy is “anti-poor,” said Garcia.

The governor also cited Republic Act No. 115251 or the Covid-19 Vaccination Program Act of 2021 which provides that vaccine cards should not be considered as an additional mandatory requirement for educational, employment and other similar government transaction purposes. (https://bit.ly/3AemdkL)

Cebu province is currently under Alert Level 3 status for Covid-19.

Garcia stressed that vaccination cards are not required to be able to access public utility vehicles.

“There will be no further requirement like the presentation of the vaccination card, that is anti-poor. How can you require everyone to have this vaccination card presented for them to avail of public transport,” she added.

The official said unvaccinated people should not be discriminated against because “vaccination is a matter of choice.”
