Nilinis para tabunan! DENR to reclaim Boracay wetlands, forests
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources will strengthen its campaign to reclaim the wetlands and forest lands in Boracay Island.
Assistant Secretary for Staff Bureaus Ricardo Calderon said they will consult and mobilize the community in the rehabilitation, recovery and protection of the island.
Calderon said the DENR is eyeing reclaiming three wetlands in Boracay that have the highest number of illegal occupants and structures that block the natural water outflow to the sea (https://thedailyguardian.net/local-news/denr-to-reclaim-boracay-wetlands-forests/).
He said these include Wetland 1 at Barangay Yapak near Puka Beach; and Wetlands 8 and 9 at Barangay Manoc- Manoc.
Wastes from those illegal occupants are directly thrown to the wetlands, he noted.
“The DENR 6 will continue to pursue one direction as to the conservation and protection of Boracay’s wetlands, socio-economic goals and be able to determine the most appropriate management scheme for Boracay Island that would truly benefit its people and all stakeholders,” Regional Executive Director Francisco Milla Jr. said.
