Nganga! 2 Iloilo City departments to receive zero budget in 2019
Some offices of the Iloilo City government may face a zero-budget scenario in 2019, if City Councilor and council appropriations panel chairman Plaridel Nava’s proposal would be upheld.
Nava said lack of respect is one reason for his upcoming recommendation of zero budget for the Local Youth and Development and City Legal Offices.
He said the LYDO chaired by Jason Gregorio overlaps with the duties of Sangguniang Kabataan Federation president Leila Luntao, adding Gregorio has shown no respect for Luntao (https://thedailyguardian.net/local-news/zero-budget-for-citys-legal-youth-offices/).
The city council is to start deliberating on the city’s 2019 budget this coming week.
He said the proposal is a message to acknowledge Luntao as SK federation president, adding Luntao is an ex-officio member.
Also, he said the City Legal Office will also suffer zero budget in 2019, due to its “hasty” action on the alleged illegal renovations on the convent of the St. Anne Parish in Molo.
He blamed the office’s haste for the dismissal of its complaint regarding the convent renovation mess.
Last September, the city council passed a resolution directing the City Legal Office to lodge charges against Msgr. Maurillo Silva, Parish Administrator of St. Anne Parish in Molo, for violation of Republic Act 10066 (National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009) and the National Building Code.
Meanwhile, Nava said at least three more offices of the city government will be given zero budget, including a task force that he said is not functioning.
He said that while the personnel of these offices will still get their salaries, their offices will have no budget for office supplies, repair and maintenance, and travel.
Casuals in every office would also be reduced by as much as 50 percent, he added.
