Netizens cry foul as Guv Gwen Garcia threatens to hunt down Cebu gov’t critics
What a shame!
A now-viral tweet quoted Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia as saying that a special unit in the provincial capitol is dedicated to “trace” anyone who criticizes the local government online regarding their response to the coronavirus outbreak.
My lawyer friends, please reply to me once I shout for help!
May mga pagbabantang nagaganap!
“We have a special unit, specially dedicated to trace you,” as per Cebu Gov Gwen Garcia, about those who will criticise government’s efforts about the crisis in socmed!

People were quick to blast the perverted idea, calling it an attack on freedoms.
This is wrong. Dissent & criticism have a place in a genuine democracy.

You are elected by the people of Cebu to serve them and not to threaten them like a despot.

“If they had such a team, why not put it into use at a covid patient contact tracing program instead?,” user @HeySyao tweeted.

Others said Garcia should not be a crybaby at the expense of the people.
“Public authorities should not be onion skinned, they are accountable to people as well. They are always under scrutiny and that’s alright,” another added.
Yes everyone can exercise his right to freedom of expression,it is enshrined in the 1987 Constitution and it has not been amended as of date. Public authorities should not be onion skinned, they are accountable to people as well. They are always under scrutiny and that’s alright

It only means that the government she handles or she, herself, is afraid of the mass. The act she’s doing is a proof of using the power of her position to threaten individuals. Politicians shouldn’t be like this and no politician is above the constitution. https://t.co/soqOCQkUxN
