Negros Occidental town declares rebels ‘persona non grata’
The Municipality of Toboso in Negros Occidental has declared the Communist Party of the Philippines and its armed wing, the New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) as persona non-grata.
The declaration was stated in Resolution No. 044, Series of 2019 passed by the municipal council last week.
“The municipality of Toboso, as it continues, to be productive and developed, did right to condemn the illegal and unlawful activities of the CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT) as it threatens the economic, social and political stability of the municipality and its people,” the resolution read.
“With this resolution declaring the CNTs as persona non grata, CNTs will not be welcomed in the Municipality of Toboso,” it also stated.
Lt. Col. Emelito Thaddeus Logan, commanding officer of the Army’s 79th Infantry Battalion (79IB), commended the signing of the declaration.
“The communist terrorist group destroys the peace, development and the lives of people in the area,” said Logan.
The Toboso municipal police station earlier endorsed a memorandum from the provincial police office directing all chiefs of police to coordinate with the local government units in declaring the CPP-NPA persona non-grata.
