Negros Occidental mayor to seek recount in tight mayoralty race
Defeated Mayor Joselito Malabor is calling for a recount of votes cast for the May 13 elections in the Municipality of Isabela, Negros Occidental.
The Commission on Election earlier proclaimed Dr. Irene Montilla as the winner of the town’s mayoral election.
Montilla is the wife of the late Isabela Mayor Enrique Montilla III.
Isabela’s newly-elected mayor garnered 13,892 votes while Malabor had 13,844 votes.
Malabo’s runningmate, Renato Malabor Jr. and seven out of eight councilors from his party won the election.
