Negros Occidental councilor shot dead
An incumbent councilor in Escalante City, Negros Occidental was killed on Monday afternoon.
Benardino Patigas Sr., 72, was on board a motorcycle when an unidentified assailant shot him.
Authorities said Patigas, former secretary-general of the Northern Negros Alliance of Human Rights Advocates, sustained gunshot wounds on the head and in other parts of his body.
According to Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office provincial director Colonel Romeo Baleros, investigators are looking into three angles – personal grudge, election-related and illegal gambling.
Partigas was among those included in a poster bearing faces of suspected communist rebels circulated in Moises Padilla town.
