Negrense solon named chair of House panel on persons with disabilities
Fifth District Rep. Ma. Lourdes “Marilou” Arroyo of Negros Occidental was named chairperson of the newly-created Special Committee on Persons with Disabilities in the House of Representatives.
The new panel will oversee all measures addressing issues affected persons with disabilities.
Arroyo said the creation of the committee is timely considering the number of measures that must be taken to ensure that their welfare and concerns are being addressed.
“The sector is one of the most overlooked sectors in the country. For such a long time, persons with disabilities have been enduring difficulty compounded by additional setbacks in the built-in infrastructure of our civic and social services that have not progressed enough to include persons with disabilities and take into account their needs,” the congresswoman said.
She said the committee will seek “to implement measures that can be taken to address factors pertaining to persons with disabilities that have been overlooked in the past and guarantee that their well-being will be prioritized”, she added.
