The provincial government of Negros Occidental may require negative RT-PCR test results for travelers from Panay Island, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said.

This, after the Department of Health confirmed that cases of the highly-contagious delta variant of Covid-19 were detected in Antique province.

Lacson said he wants to know the real situation in Antique and why it was only now that the variant was confirmed. (

They will observe closely the presence of delta variant in Region 6, according to him.

“If the Delta variant appears in Negros in the same manner as it appeared in India and Indonesia, we will never be ready,” he added.

As of Wednesday, the Negros Occidental Provincial Incident Management Team reported 1,621 active Covid-19 cases, 515 deaths, and 18,546 recoveries.
