NegOcc hog raisers opt to sell hogs to Luzon, Mindanao

Swine raisers in Negros Occidental diverted some of their shipments to Metro Manila because of the ongoing pork and pork byproducts ban in Cebu.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said some of the hog raisers had to ship their products to Luzon as it is easier, although the pricing is significantly lower than in Eastern Visayas.

Dr. Placeda Lemana, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Veterinary Office, on Thursday said that commercial hog raisers have chosen to ship their pork products to Mindanao via Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte. (https://bit.ly/3ZZIVZZ)

However, the transport cost to Mindanao is too expensive as some of the products will be shipped to remote towns and cities.

Lacson reported that hog raisers have already sent around 1,100 hog heads to Manila since March 7.

Pork being sold in Manila is around P20 less compared to those being sold in Eastern Visayas, he added.

Meanwhile, the governor denied rumors that the reason why Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia has not responded to his appeal letter was due to the ongoing proposal to reestablish the Negros Island Region.

“No, definitely no. I don’t think there is any relation to that,” said Lacson.
