NegOcc guv eyes reopening borders
Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is studying the possibility of reopening land borders with Negros Oriental.
Lacson is scheduled to hold a virtual meeting today with local chief executives in the province to discuss the matter.
Last March, officials of the two provinces sealed their respective borders in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus disease. (https://bit.ly/3slBFa7)
The governor said that he will consult Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang and members of the Provincial Incident Management Team about the border reopening that would allow the return of land trips between the two provinces.
Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental are both under modified general community quarantine for the entire January.
Lacson’s move came after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas announced that it is reopening bus routes from Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental to Cebu City and vice versa.
