NegOcc count of election gun ban violation reaches 137


At least 137 gun owners in Negros Occidental have been arrested in the first five months of the Commission on Elections’ gun ban for the 2013 midterm elections.

Provincial police said the 137 were arrested in 123 police operations between Jan. 13 and May 10. At least 106 cases had been filed against the violators.

The Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office added it will continue to monitor persons with unlicensed firearms beyond the end of the gun ban on June 12.

Seized during the operations were 110 small firearms, one light weapon, 27 deadly weapons, 856 rounds of ammunition, and seven explosives.

The small firearms include 32 pistols, 47 revolvers, 22 shotguns, and nine improvised firearms, including pin gun and gun replicas.
