Moises Padilla tagged as red election hotspot
The town of Moises Padilla in Negros Occidental has been categorized as “red area” for the upcoming May midterm elections.
On Wednesday, municipal police chief Captain Junjie Liba said the classification is a result of the killing of Councilor Jolomar Hilario by suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) last Sunday.
“It is the highest category for areas of concern in connection with the May 13, 2019 election,” added Liba.
He added that intense political rivalry between candidates also led to the declaration of Category Red.
Reelection Mayor Magdaleno Peña is running against his niece, Vice Mayor Ella Garcia for the mayoral post.
With Moises Padilla categorized as a red area, Liba said additional military and police forces will be deployed to ensure the peaceful conduct of the polls in the town.
