Miraflores, Cadiao, Contreras, Gumarin back Duterte’s VP run
Four Western Visayan governors have expressed their support for the vice presidential bid of President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2022 national elections.
In a press statement last Friday, a total of 40 governors purportedly supported Duterte’s candidacy for the country’s second highest post.
Included in this list were Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores, Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao, Capiz Governor Esteban Evan Contreras, and Guimaras Governor Samuel Gumarin. (https://bit.ly/2UYhJOY)
“As Vice President, President Duterte could influence his successor to pursue his war on drugs, his Build, Build, Build infrastructure plan, projects for the poor, and his post-Covid 19 pandemic economic recovery roadmap, among other programs,” the statement read.
“Despite the inroads in the campaign against illegal drugs, the drug menace continues to persist. Indeed, this problem is no longer confined to urban areas; it has spread to the countryside. The next administration, with the help of President Duterte, should relentlessly pursue the war on drugs,” it added.
On August 24, the ruling PDP-Laban announced that Duterte accepted their endorsement for him to run as vice president next year.
The President also confirmed this during his taped “Talk to the People” address Tuesday evening.
