Miraflores: Ati-Atihan fest could become COVID super spreader event
Aklan Governor Florencio Miraflores is not keen on approving the staging of Ati-Atihan Festival held every January due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Despite the ongoing efforts to minimize the impact of the disease, Covid-19 remains a threat, especially to the unvaccinated, said Miraflores.
Data from Regional Vaccination Operations Center showed that only 180,507 individuals or 42.21 percent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated. (https://bit.ly/3E20Y6D)
Miraflores said he can’t sacrifice public health as Ati-Atihan celebrations could be potential super spreader events.
The pandemic is far from over, the governor said, noting that many European countries are now imposing tighter restrictions due to rising infections.
