Mayor Sualog appeals for responsible tourism in Boracay
Malay Mayor Abram Sualog of Aklan province is urging tourists in Boracay Island to observe and adhere to environmental laws.
The “lessons learned” during Boracay’s six-month closure should inspire everyone to engage in the ongoing rehabilitation activities in the island, said Sualog.
“Mas marami ang ating kontribusyon sa rehabilitasyon ng isla kung tayo ay magtutulungan. Una, sundin natin ang mga batas. Gaganda ang Boracay pag ma-preserve natin ang environment at mas maraming turista ang pupunta,” according to him.
Sualog noted that the strict implementation of Project Boracay Enhanced Security Strategy and Tactics has reduced violations of local ordinances.
“Tuloy-tuloy ang ating implementasyon ng mga ordinances. Kailangang pangalagaan natin ang isla at dapat may pagbabago sa ating mga sarili,” the town mayor said.
He added: “Responsibly aware tourists from emerging markets will help Boracay Island to minimize tourism’s negative impact to the environment.”
