Mayor Radaza eyes new Lapu-Lapu statue
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza said she wants to build a statue of national hero Lapu-Lapu at a reclamation area in Barangay Punta Engaño.
The Cebu politiko said the new statue will be part of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the beginning of Christianity in the country.
Lapu-Lapu City is named after the Visayan leader who supposedly led the first resistance against the Spaniards.
Radaza also said the 40-foot bronze statue of Lapu-Lapu in Rizal Park should remain there.
She said not moving the statue to Lapu-Lapu City will allow other Filipinos to honor Lapu-Lapu.
