Mayor Osmeña supports Chinatown in Cebu
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is supporting the proposal to establish a Chinatown in the Queen City of the South.
Councillor Jerry Guardo earlier proposed to transform the whole downtown area of Cebu City into a “Chinatown Center.”
The Cebu politiko said the proposal will herald many economic benefits for the city.
“It has a growing potential. It depends on many things but it can be a growth area. It’s a possible plus factor for the city if it’s well accepted,” Osmeña said.
Guardo also said the proposal aims to recognize the Filipino-Chinese Cebuanos’ role in the development of Cebu City.
“Let me point out, it has nothing to do whether they deserve it or not. It has to do with what the industry might help support our economy because we now have 11 flights from China everyday and it’s growing very fast,” Osmeña explained.
