Tourists and tourism activities are temporarily banned in Igbaras town, Iloilo province.

Mayor Jaime Esmeralda issued Executive Order No. (EO) 04-18 for the “temporary closing of tourism activities in the Municipality of Igbaras, Iloilo” after several Covid-19 cases were detected.

The EO stated that a Covid-19 positive individual died in Barangay Igtalongon on March 26. (https://bit.ly/3gXueTx)

“The origin or source of infection of our recent mortality is still unknown despite the thorough contact tracing done by our medical frontliners,” the measure said.

Two additional cases were also found after further testing.

“Allowing guests and visitors to visit our tourist destinations and inland resorts may endanger their lives or vice versa considering that cases of [SARS-CoV-2] are unrelenting in other areas outside this municipality,” said Esmeralda.

A total of 90 confirmed cases have been recorded in Igbaras as of May 1. Nine are active cases while three have died.
