Mar Roxas to push for Negros Island as one region
If he wins the Senate race, former Interior secretary and senator Mar Roxas said he will push for the passage of a law that will merge the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental into a single island region.
Roxas, a senatorial candidate in the 2019 midterm elections, made the statement on Thursday during the birthday celebration of National Federation of Sugarcane Planters president Enrique Rojas.
The Visayan Daily Star reported that he also vowed to serve as the voice of the Negrenses in the Senate should he win in next year’s polls, said the former presidential candidate.
His mother, Judy Araneta Roxas, hails from the province of Negros Occidental.
“Wherever I went, it was very clear that the economy needed strengthening,” said Roxas, who also promised to focus on the economy once elected.
