Manual recount of votes underway in NegOcc town
The recount of votes cast in mayoral elections in Isabela, Negros Occidental began Thursday morning.
Atty. Jose Max Ortiz, legal counsel for defeated Mayor Joselito Malabor, said a manual recount will be conducted before the La Carlota City Regional Trial Court-Branch 73.
Malabor lost his bid for reelection to Dr. Irene Consunji-Montilla during the May 13 midterm elections. Consunji beat the incumbent mayor by only 48 votes.
The petitioner said they wanted to address the alleged “double transmission” of votes.
According to him, local officials “rushed” Consunji-Montilla’s proclamation even some votes were still being counted.
