The Mandaue City government sought assistance from the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Visayas (OPAV) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for flood mitigation measures.

This, after the city experienced a massive flooding last week.

The city government wants to dredge waterways and install submersible pumps in flood-prone areas. (https://tinyurl.com/3nd9jtr9)

Flood mitigation projects are currently being implemented in all creeks, rivers, and other waterways throughout the city in stages.

The city’s public information office said once all flood mitigation projects are completed, flooding will be significantly reduced.

Among the current projects are:

*the Rolling Hills Drainage Project in Banilad;

*Drainage Project going to E. Espina St. in Banilad (downstream of former LH Prime);

*Tipolo Creek Flood Control Project Phase 1; and

*Consuelo Flood Control Project in Basak.

The DPWH is also closely coordinating the full implementation of the flood control projects at the Butuanon River, Mahiga River, Tipolo Creek, and Basak Creek next year.

The city wants DPWH to also improve the bridge near Innodata in Barangay Subangdaku to alleviate flooding in the area, as well as work on a possible diversion of Talamban drainage to Mahiga River instead of passing through A.S. Fortuna.
