Malay official: Cynthia Villar’s resort levelling Boracay mountain
A Malay local government official said a resort owned by Senator Cynthia Villar’s family is levelling a mountain in Boracay.
A video earlier circulated showing the ongoing construction works at Costa Vista resort.
Boracay is supposedly closed for rehabilitation.
Rowen Aguirre, Malay Executive Assistant on Boracay Affairs said Costa Vista resort do not have the necessary permits to level the mountain.
Aguirre also said the Malay local government ordered Costa Vista to stop working on the project.
Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu on May 16 said the DENR’s field office reported that Costa Vista already stopped the levelling of the mountain before Boracay’s closure last month.
“I have ordered, with the concurrence of the Boracay inter-agency task force, a total stoppage of all constructions of any kind effective immediately,” Cimatu said.
