Mahal na uli: Taxi flagdown rates back to P40 in NCR, Panay, Cebu
Bad news for taxi riders in Metro Manila, Panay Island, and Cebu. Starting Thursday, Feb. 9, the flagdown rate for a cab will be back to P40 in these areas.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said the hike will take effect also in areas with presence of the Philippine National Taxi Operators Association.
“This means that whatever is reflected on the meter is the total fare. The passenger needs not to ask for a reduction of P10,” LTFRB-6 spokesperson Jose Marie Lamparero told The Daily Guardian (https://thedailyguardian.net/banner-news/flag-rate-panay-taxi-cabs-back-p40/).
Worse, Lamparero said there are pending petitions seeking an increase in taxi cab rates for every succeeding kilometer, and to reduce the waiting time for passengers.
Lamparero said the order stemmed from the petition of a Metro Manila-based taxi drivers’ association, some of whose members are from Iloilo.
In early 2016, the LTFRB brought down the flagdown rate to P30.
