Loren Legarda scolds DSWD, DBM for slow release of cash subsidies

The emergency powers have been given a week ago, but the poorest families remain deprived and hungry.

Former Senator now Antique Rep. Loren Legarda has scolded the national government for its slow response to the COVID-19 pandemic even if President Rodrigo Duterte has already been given special powers to realign funds in the 2020 national budget.

“5-8,000 pesos per poor family should have received their cash subsidy by now. That’s the Bayanihan law. The 3,600 pesos for the poor under unconditional cash transfer for 2019 and another in 2020 should also have been distributed by now. Calling on DSWD and DBM. Please,” the politiko said.

Duterte’s latest update on the funds confirmed that none has been released to the poor, saying that agencies are still finalizing the list of those entitled to the benefit.
