Limitado road trip! LTO Western Visayas bans e-bikes in highways
No thanks to the lack of the proper permits, electric bikes are banned from national highways in the Western Visayas region, the Land Transportation Office (LTO)-Region 6 said.
LTO-6 spokesperson Riza Otayde said they have yet to receive any application from manufacturers or dealers of e-bikes as of now.
Otayde said manufacturers and suppliers of e-bikes should comply with the requirements to register the bikes with the LTO.
She said this includes the manufacturers and suppliers submitting their stock reports to the LTO Central Office.
Once the stock reports are approved, the manufacturers, suppliers, and dealers should secure accreditation for selling e-bikes.
The clients and customers should then secure the needed documents for registering other types of land vehicles.
In Iloilo City, Councilor Plaridel Nava is planning to pass an ordinance regulating e-bikes, including specific routes for the vehicles.
But Nava added they cannot issue an ordinance regulating e-bikes until it is harmonized with the regulation or memorandum circular from the national government.
