Leonardia forms task force to mitigate impact of El Niño-related drought
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia has issued an executive order creating the “Task Force El Niño” that would enhance inter-agency coordination in the formulation and implementation of measures addressing the adverse effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
Panay News reported that the contingency plan aims to address the shrinkage of water supply, reduce crop losses, and prevent the risk of heat-related illnesses.
“A coordinated effort must be undertaken to minimize El Niño’s adverse effects on our people,” said Leonardia.
According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the task force will submit plans and recommendations next week.
The Task Force El Niño will ensure the successful implementation of the mitigation plan.
It will also conduct a massive information campaign to educate the public and the needed interventions to reduce the adverse weather effects of El Niño.
